The air ambulance chartered to transport BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to London for medical treatment has received permission to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka tomorrow, Tuesday morning.
Group Captain S M Ragib Samad, Executive Director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, confirmed this information to Prothom Alo earlier today, Monday morning.
However, whether Khaleda Zia will be able to travel to London depends entirely on her physical condition. Her personal physician, A J M Zahid Hossain, also stated on Saturday that her departure abroad is conditional upon her health status.
S M Ragib Samad said the air ambulance belongs to the German-based airline FAI Aviation Group. The air ambulance is scheduled to land at Shahjalal Airport at 8:20 AM tomorrow and may depart Dhaka at 9:00 PM on the same day.
Meanwhile, sources from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) indicated that the application submitted by FAI Aviation Group on Saturday requested a schedule for landing in Dhaka on Tuesday and departing for London on the following day, Wednesday.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been undergoing treatment at Dhaka's Evercare Hospital for over two weeks.
A source involved in the decisions regarding Khaleda Zia's treatment and foreign travel stated late Sunday night that doctors have observed her latest condition and decided to postpone her foreign transfer by another two days.
This decision, taken due to the risks of a long journey, now fully depends on changes in her physical condition over the next 24 to 48 hours. According to the source, as of the latest information received last night, there was no noticeable improvement or deterioration; her condition largely remained unchanged.
A source close to the medical board formed for Khaleda Zia's treatment reported that while her diabetes, kidney, heart, and lung issues are sometimes under control, they occasionally go suddenly out of control. Consequently, her overall condition cannot be described as stable.
The latest tests have shown some progress in the condition of her kidneys and lungs. However, doctors have stated that these improvements are not sufficient to reduce the overall risk, and she is still not out of danger.
Due to this uncertain state, Khaleda Zia's potential departure date has been repeatedly changed. Initially, the BNP announced that she would be taken to London early Friday (December 5). Later that Friday morning, a new date of December 7 was given. Late that night, it was again announced that the potential departure date was postponed to December 9.
