Six Bangladeshi peacekeepers were killed and eight others wounded, including three female soldiers, in a terrorist attack on a United Nations peacekeeping mission base in the Abyei area of Sudan.
Tarique Rahman, the Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), expressed his profound grief over the incident.
In a post on his verified Facebook page on Saturday (December 13) night, Mr. Rahman conveyed his condolences.
“I am deeply saddened and heartbroken by the news of the martyrdom of six brave Bangladeshi Army peacekeepers and the injury of eight others, including three female soldiers, in the barbaric attack by a terrorist group on the United Nations peacekeeping mission base in Sudan’s Abyei area,” Mr. Rahman wrote.
He stated that the courageous soldiers, who sacrificed their lives while upholding the noble duty of preserving global peace under the UN flag, are a source of pride for the nation. "Their sacrifice will remain eternally memorable for Bangladesh," he added.
Mr. Rahman prayed for the departed souls of the peacekeepers and extended his deepest sympathies to their bereaved families.
He also wished a swift recovery for the injured soldiers and called on all concerned parties to stand by them during this difficult time.
Further reflecting on the incident, he wrote, “As the proud son of a decorated army officer, I have always been deeply inspired by the exceptional professionalism, courage, and sacrifice of the Bangladesh Army. I believe it is critical that the international community plays a more effective role in ensuring the security of peacekeepers in the current situation.”
He concluded by praying: “May Almighty Allah accept our brave soldiers as martyrs and grant the injured a quick recovery.”
