The "300-feet" area of the capital has transformed into a massive human tide as the BNP prepares a grand mass reception for the homecoming of its Acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman.
Despite the biting winter cold, the "36 July Expressway" (Purbachal Expressway) and its surrounding areas are overflowing with crowds.
By early Thursday morning (December 25), the area surrounding the main stage was already packed to capacity. Many activists spent the entire night under the open sky to secure their spots.
Since dawn, a steady stream of party leaders and supporters from the capital and various districts across the country has continued to pour into the venue.
Tarique Rahman is scheduled to land in Dhaka from London this afternoon, ending a nearly 17-year exile. To mark this historic return, a colossal stage has been constructed for what the party describes as a "royal reception."
The Scene at Purbachal
A massive 48ft x 36ft stage made of bamboo and wood has been erected on the northern side of the road leading from Bishwa Road toward Purbachal, facing south.
A giant LED screen dominates the stage, displaying the message "The Historic Homecoming of Tarique Rahman" set against the backdrop of the national flag.
Final preparations and decorations were completed by Wednesday morning. The entire zone is adorned with banners, flags, ceremonial arches, and decorative lighting.
The atmosphere remains festive, with the air thick with slogans and the sight of thousands of placards.
Heightened Security Measures
To ensure the safety of the massive gathering, a coordinated security effort is underway. Teams from the Bangladesh Army and the Police are patrolling the stage and surrounding areas.
Sources indicate that law enforcement is working in a synchronized manner to maintain a risk-free environment. Additionally, Tarique Rahman’s personal specialized security team has already taken positions on and around the stage.
Public Enthusiasm
Beyond political activists, the homecoming has sparked significant interest among the general public. Residents from Purbachal, Kuril, and the Airport area were seen visiting the venue with their families to witness the scale of the event.
As the clock ticks toward noon, all eyes remain fixed on the horizon, awaiting the arrival of the BNP Acting Chairman.
