Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain, a member of the BNP Standing Committee and the medical board overseeing Khaleda Zia’s treatment, has announced that the BNP Chairperson’s health condition is "extremely complex" and that she is currently passing through a "critical moment."
In an unscheduled press briefing held in front of Evercare Hospital around 12:30 AM on Sunday (December 28), Dr. Zahid provided an urgent update on the former Prime Minister's status.
Family Presence and Medical Status
Earlier that night, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, visited the hospital to see Khaleda Zia. Dr. Zahid noted that they spent a significant amount of time by her bedside.
"Naturally, it cannot be said that her condition has improved," Dr. Zahid informed reporters. "Her situation is highly complicated. If she can overcome this crisis through medical treatment and the infinite mercy of the Almighty, we may hope for a positive outcome."
Escalation to Intensive Care
Dr. Zahid explained that due to the continuous deterioration of her health, Khaleda Zia had to be moved from her cabin to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and subsequently to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
He highlighted that since her admission to Evercare Hospital on November 23, her physical condition has seen a marked decline.
Treatment and Appeals for Prayer
Regarding her ongoing care, Dr. Zahid stated:
Dr. Zahid concluded by requesting the nation to pray for her recovery. He mentioned that Tarique Rahman and his family expressed their gratitude to the public for their continued prayers and thanked the doctors and nurses for their tireless service.
