Two more political parties have joined the eight-party alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. The new additions are the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), led by Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmed, and the National Citizen Party (NCP).
The expansion was announced during a press conference held by the eight-party alliance at the National Press Club on Sunday (December 28) at 5:00 PM.
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman officially announced the names of the two new members. While LDP representatives were present, no NCP leaders attended the briefing.
Addressing this, the Jamaat Ameer stated, "We held a meeting with the NCP just a short while ago where they agreed to join this understanding or alliance. They will make a formal announcement tonight."
Election Strategy and Seat Sharing
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman described the coalition as a "strong electoral alliance" formed with a shared vision for the nation. Regarding seat-sharing for the 300 parliamentary constituencies, he noted that discussions are nearly finalized.
"Since these two parties joined at the very last stage, and many others were interested, it has become difficult to incorporate everyone into the formal process at this moment," he explained. "Our seat negotiations are almost complete.
Any minor remaining issues will be resolved through amicable discussion after the nomination filing process."
Vision for the Future
The Jamaat chief emphasized that the alliance would play a crucial role in ensuring a fair election.
"The nation now seeks long-term liberation, peace, and to emerge as a disciplined society. It is our responsibility to fulfill the expectations of the youth who fought and sacrificed their lives," he added.
The existing members of the alliance include:
