Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami retained Dr Shafiqur Rahman as their Ameer for the next 2026-2028 tenure, the party's Chief Election Commissioner and Assistant Secretary General ATM Masum announced the results on Saturday night.
Jamaat members (rukans) across the country voted through secret ballots from October 9 to 25. At the end of the voting, the relevant responsible team completed the counting.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman was elected the chief of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami for the next three years, securing the highest number of votes.
Under the party's constitution, the ameer is elected directly by members for a three-year term.
After election, the ameer takes the oath before the chief election commissioner in the presence of members of the central Majlis-e-Shura, the working committee and the executive council.
