BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has declared that a future government under his leadership will be fully accountable to the people, pledging a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption and the restoration of the rule of law.
Rahman said:
The BNP leader made these remarks on Monday evening (February 9) in a televised address to the nation ahead of the upcoming national election and referendum. The speech was broadcast via state media, including Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar.
Accountability and the Power of the People
Rahman emphasized that there is no alternative to making the state and the government accountable to its citizens.
“You are the source of all of BNP’s political power; that is why I make this pledge to you,” he stated. Reflecting on the previous political climate, he noted, “During the era of fascism, I urged you to spend time with your families during the so-called 'dummy election' on January 7, 2024. Today, in a Bangladesh free from fascism, I call upon the nation once again.”
A Call to the Polls
Directing his appeal toward the youth and the general electorate, Rahman urged voters to turn out in force for the upcoming polls.
He further assured the public that he would personally oversee the performance of elected representatives to ensure they fulfill their duties.
Closing his address, Rahman stated that if the BNP receives the public's support on February 12, the core principle of their administration would be guided by the "noble ideals of justice" inspired by the Prophet.
