10 women killed in stampede while collecting iftar items in Chattogram

At least 10 women were killed in stampede while collecting zakat and iftar items at Satkania in Chattogram. At least 40 people were also injured in the incident that took place at Nolua union in Satkania at around 1 pm on Monday.

Chattogram district Police Super Nurul Alam Mina confirmed the matter to Rtv online. He said the death toll may rise.

Nolua union council chairman Taslima Akter said that detail identity of the deceased is yet to be known. 7 of the deceased were women. The death toll may rise.

Like every year KSRM group this year also took initiative to distribute zakat and iftar essentials for the poor people in their own area. It was organized at a madrassa ground at Nolua on Monday morning. The incident took place as the area turned overcrowded.

Additional Police Super of Chattogram sadar Mohammad Rezaul Masud said, we are looking into the matter whether there was any negligence of the KSRM authority. Police will file an Unnatural Death case in this connection.

He also said, the poor people began to gather at Hangormukh madrassa ground of Ghatiadanga village from different districts including Chattogram from Sunday night to collect zakat and ifter essentials. Most of them were poor and widow women. The gathering began to increase after 10 am. 10 aged women were killed due to overcrowded hustling condition. The dead bodies were kept at Chattogram Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
