DMP’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit Chief Monirul Islam said, according to the election code of conduct there is no scope to collect or submit the nomination papers through procession-rally.
He said this at a citizen dialogue held at the CIRDAP auditorium in the capital on Friday.
Monirul said, DMP had the ability to disperse any illegal gathering of people. We requested them but they attacked police with sticks wearing helmets.
He said, there were many people but the involved were identified specifically after watching the video footage. Three cases were filed centering them. Nobody was made accused in the case without any reason. The involved in Nayapaltan violence are being brought under criminal act after watching photos and videos.
Monirul Islam said, legal steps were taken to ensure free and fair environment for upcoming national parliament election. No action is being taken until anybody is involved with criminal activities. We will be forced to apply law if only criminal activities take place.
He said, already the schedule for parliament election was declared. We are working under Election Commission. Different legal steps are going on to ensure the election atmosphere for a free and fair election.
Monirul said, we have different types of preparations centering the election. The operational capacity of militant organizations has decreased following drives in different areas of the country. There is no fear of militant attack centering the election. But there is no reason to be satisfied, law enforcement agencies are on alert.
Urging political parties for not involving young people into violence centering the election, Monirul said, the matters of employment and security for young people are given importance in every political party’s manifesto.
