Hill slides took place at Ukhiya Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar following the last four days heavy rainfall and gusty wind. More than 3 hundred homes of Rohingyas were inundated and damaged due to the incidents.
The natural calamity also claimed two lives.
A Rohingya youth named Mohammad Ali died when a tree fell on him at Jamtali area in Ukhiya upazila.
OC of Ukhiya police station Md. Abul Khayer said, Mohammad Ali died when a tree fell on him following gusty wind. His body was kept at a hospital in the camp.
On the other hand, a two year old child of Abdus Sukkur died following land slide at number 7 camp of Kutupalong area on Monday.
The most affected areas following heavy rainfall are Balukhali, TV relay station adjacent area, camp 5 and camp 7 areas. Some Rohingya camps were inundated in the low lying areas of Balukhali.
Ukhiya UNO Nikaruzzaman told Rtv online that more than 3 hundred houses were damaged due to hill slides and gusty wind in D-4 and D-7 block of Kutupalong camp. Several low lying areas were also inundated following heavy rainfall.
Rohingya Refugee Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar Md. Abul Kalam said, minor landslides are occurring in the camp due to heavy downpour. Some Rohingya houses were also damaged.
Several Rohingyas in Teknaf and Ukhiya upazila said that they are in huge sufferings following the rainfall. Some are not getting food for the devastation.
