A well-marked low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has triggered rainfall across Dhaka and several other regions of the country since early Thursday (May 29). The rain, accompanied by gusty winds, has brought a slight chill to the atmosphere.
The Meteorological Department has forecast rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds in six regions by 1 pm today. Additionally, river ports in other areas have been advised to display cautionary signal number 1.
According to the weather bulletin, areas including Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Chattogram, and Cox's Bazar may experience rain or thundershowers with strong winds blowing from the south or southeast at speeds of 60 to 80 km/h. River ports in these zones have been asked to hoist cautionary signal number 2.
In a separate update issued on Wednesday (May 28) evening, the Met Office warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in many parts of six divisions, including Dhaka, within the next 48 hours. There is also a risk of landslides in five districts as a result.
During this period, significant rainfall (44–88 mm) to very heavy rainfall (over 88 mm) may occur in many areas of the Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions.
