DB Lalbagh discovers counterfeit money factory in Dhaka

A fake currency factory has been found in Donia area of Kadamtali in the capital. Fake notes Tk 1.5 crore were recovered from the spot.

DB porvided such information after arresting four members of the gang in a raid on Saturday morning (June 8).

DB's Lalbagh Division Deputy Commissioner Mashiur Rahman, who led the raid, said the syndicate of fake currency traders has become active centering the upcoming Eid ul-Adha.

Preparations were already underway to spread fake notes of about two crore taka at the field level around Eid.

Lekayat Hossain Zakir, the mastermind, has also sold some money at the wholesale level. Earlier, he was arrested by DB in 2020 for the same crime.


Zakir said that earlier the demand for 500-1000 notes was high, but now the demand for small notes is high. He used to sell one lakh bundles of Tk 1,000 for a maximum of Tk 8,000. He also printed the Indian rupee.
