Robbers fear in capital, city dwellers in insecurity

Due to the quota reform movement in government jobs, all police stations of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) are currently empty. In this situation, robberies are happening at night in some areas of the capital. Panic is spreading among the capital residents. They are suffering from insecurity. Residents of many areas are spending sleepless nights to prevent robbery.

From 12:30 pm on Thursday (August 8), robberies spread in Demra, Nandipara, Khilgaon, Basabo, Banasree, Rampura Gogan, Shakhari Bazar, Kathalbagan, Mohammadpur and Mirpur areas of the capital.

Residents said that everyone became alert after hearing the bandits had entered the area. They have already arrested some robbers from Mohammadpur, three from Mazar Road in Mirpur and one from Shanir Akhra. Residents are suffering from insecurity due to night robbery. Many called the emergency number provided by the army and BGB in the incident of robbery.

According to police sources, there have been attacks, vandalism and looting in more than four hundred police stations across the country including Dhaka. Considering the situation, no one feels safe in the police station or their respective offices. Some are hiding in the homes of relatives. Army personnel rescued policemen from some police stations.

After the resignation of the Sheikh Hasina government, in the absence of the police, there has been a fear of robberies in the last three nights. As a result, the residents are guarding by forming teams in different areas of the capital. Locals came to the field to resist the robbers with sticks and bamboo at every turn.

Meanwhile, on August 7, ISPR informed that, in the current situation, members of the Bangladesh Army are deployed to provide overall security to public property and important government facilities. In case of any acts of vandalism, mayhem or death threats are requested to contact the nearest army camp.

In this regard, it has been asked to refrain from misleading the army by providing false information and fearing rumours. City residents have been asked to call the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Dhaka to prevent any acts of robbery or harm to public safety.

Incidentally, after Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country on August 5, the situation in the country became critical. When most of the police stations in the capital, Dhaka, came under attack, the members of the police force were somehow unannounced and inactive. For this, miscreants and a class of people started stealing, robbing and looting.
