Private Car Plunges into Canal in Pirojpur, 8 Dead
In Pirojpur, a private car lost control and plunged into a canal, killing eight people, including children. Among the deceased, four were from the same family.
The accident occurred around 2 a.m. on Wednesday (October 9) in the Kadamtala area of Sadar Upazila.
Confirming the incident, Talha Bin Jashim, an official from the Fire Service Media Cell, told the media that a private car lost control and fell into a canal in Pirojpur's Kadamtala Bazaar at 2 a.m., resulting in the deaths of eight people, including four children. Four of the deceased were from the same family, consisting of two men, two women, and four children.
He added that the Fire Service received the report of the car falling into the canal at 2:15 a.m. A unit from Pirojpur Fire Station arrived at the scene at 2:30 a.m. and began rescue operations. Another unit joined shortly after. All eight bodies from the car were recovered, and it is believed that everyone in the vehicle had died.
According to the Fire Service, four of the deceased belonged to the same family: Motahar (45), his wife Sabina (36), their daughter Mukta (10), and their son Shoaib (2).
Additional Superintendent of Police Mukit Hasan of Pirojpur stated that the private car lost control and fell into the canal, killing all eight passengers. The national ID of one passenger, Abdul Motaleb, was found in the car, and efforts are underway to trace the identities of the others.
He further added that it is still unclear where the private car was coming from and where it was headed. The bodies are currently being kept at Pirojpur Sadar Hospital.
