Army, BGB Join Efforts to Control Fire at Leather Warehouse
A massive fire erupted at a tannery warehouse in the Hazaribagh market area of the capital on Friday afternoon, January 17. 12 units of the Fire Service are actively battling the blaze with support from the Army and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
Lima Khanam, Duty Officer at the Fire Service Headquarters, confirmed the incident, stating, "A fire broke out this afternoon at a tannery warehouse in Hazaribagh market. The blaze originated on the 5th floor of a seven-story building. Twelve Fire Service units are currently on-site working to contain it."
Eyewitness accounts describe the area as being engulfed in thick smoke, causing widespread panic among local residents. BGB and army personnel have joined forces with the Fire Service to expedite efforts to control the fire.
Preliminary assumptions suggest the presence of chemicals in the leather warehouse could have contributed to the intensity of the fire, though no official confirmation has been provided. Fortunately, there have been no reports of anyone being trapped inside the building so far.
