After a nine-month travel ban in Saint Martin's Island, the government is going to reopen the lone coral island of the country for tourists on November 1.
Nasreen Jahan, Secretary for the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, disclosed it in a presser for observing the World Tourism Day at the conference room of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism in the capital on Thursday.
"The environment of the island has improved a lot due to the travel restrictions," she said.
Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Advisor Sk Bashir Uddin, who was also present there, said that a tourism policy would be announced soon to protect the country's tourism industry.
He also added that two thousand tourists would be able to visit the island each day.
"Tourists have to register through a registration software to get permission to visit there, though it has not been ready yet; it is in the final stage," the advisor added.
Earlier, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change put a ban on tourism at St Martin's Island in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar from February 1 this year due to environmental concerns.
The government took the step mainly to protect the island's ecosystem.
