A major fire broke out at the Korail Slum in the capital on Tuesday evening. At least 11 fire-fighting units rushed to the scene to bring the fire under control, until this report was filled.
According to Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) media officer Talha bin Zasim, the blaze erupted around 5:22 pm. No casualties have so far been reported.
The cause of the fire could not be known immediately.
The slum, spread over around 90 acres near the upscale areas of Gulshan and Banani in the city, has around 10,000 shanties and is prone to frequent fires. In February, a fire burnt dozens of shanties in the slum.
