A horrifying night of violence in Lakshmipur’s Sadar upazila has left a seven-year-old girl dead after unidentified attackers set fire to the home of a local leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Three other members of the same family were reported severely injured.

The deceased has been identified as Ayesha Begum Binti, the youngest daughter of Md Belal, the assistant organizing secretary of the BNP's Bhabaniganj Union unit.

According to police and survivors, the attack was a calculated act of malice. Belal was asleep with his wife and three daughters when the assailants struck.

The attackers reportedly locked the two exit doors from the outside, trapping the family within.

They then poured petrol around the perimeter of the house and ignited it. The flames spread with such speed that the family was left with almost no chance to escape.

Ayesha was burned to death on the spot. Belal and his two other daughters, Smriti (18) and Bithi (13), sustained significant burn injuries before neighbors could reach the scene to rescue them.

The injured were initially rushed to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital.

However, as the condition of the two sisters deteriorated, they were urgently transferred to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.

Medical officials have described Smriti’s condition as critical while Belal remains under treatment at the local hospital in Lakshmipur.

The Fire Service and Civil Defense arrived shortly after the alarm was raised.

Station official Ranjit Kumar Saha stated that it took firefighters approximately one hour of intense effort to bring the blaze under control.

Wahid Parvez, Officer-in-Charge of Lakshmipur Sadar Police Station, confirmed the details of the tragedy.

“One child has died and three others have been injured in this arson attack. Our teams have visited the scene, and a thorough investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators,” he said.

Local residents have expressed deep concern over the escalating trend of targeting political figures and their families in their homes under the cover of night.
