The MPO-enlisted Teachers’ Nationalisation Aspirants’ Alliance on Monday issued an ultimatum to the interim government, demanding the official gazette of the 9th National Pay Scale be published by February 4.

The alliance warned that failure to meet this deadline would trigger a series of "tougher programs" nationwide.

Speaking at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club, Alliance Member Secretary Principal Delwar Hossain Azizi announced that if the demand is ignored, a district-level human chain will be held on February 5.

Furthermore, memorandums will be submitted to the Chief Adviser through Deputy Commissioners. Azizi noted that while the National Pay Commission-2025 was formed in July last year to combat inflation, no new pay scale has been implemented in 11 years, leaving over 600,000 teachers and their families in financial distress.

Responding to the growing pressure, Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed has urged government employees and teachers to remain patient.

During a visit to Natore last Friday, the Adviser clarified that the Pay Commission’s report—headed by former Finance Secretary Zakir Ahmed Khan—is in its final stages and is expected to be submitted by January 21.

Dr. Salehuddin emphasized that "funding is the main issue" and that the government needs time to process the recommendations. He also linked the strength of future political reforms to the upcoming national referendum, urging citizens to participate to ensure state stability.

Key Highlights of the 9th Pay Scale Proposals:

Minimum Basic Salary: Recommended to rise to BDT 18,000 – BDT 21,000 (up from BDT 8,250).

Implementation: Proposals suggest a partial implementation starting January 1, 2026, with full implementation by July.

Scope: The new scale aims to reduce the current 20 grades to a more streamlined 12–15 grade structure.
