The Bangladesh Coast Guard has intercepted a massive smuggling operation in Fatulla, seizing Indian sarees valued at approximately BDT 20.67 crore.
The high-value consignment was reportedly brought into the country to evade government customs duties.
Acting on a tip-off, a specialized team from the Pagla Coast Guard Station conducted a pre-dawn raid on Thursday near the Shibu Market area.
During the operation, officers intercepted a suspicious covered van. A thorough search of the vehicle revealed a vast quantity of illegal Indian sarees.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq confirmed the seizure on Friday morning, stating that the total estimated market value of the goods is BDT 20,67,50,000.
One individual suspected of involvement in the smuggling ring was apprehended at the scene.
The seized merchandise and the covered van have been handed over to the Bangshal Circle Customs and Fatulla Police Station.
Legal proceedings are currently underway against the arrested smuggler as authorities continue to investigate the broader network behind the illegal trade.
