The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has announced that the Dhaka University metro station will remain closed throughout Tuesday to facilitate the celebration of Pahela Baishakh.

Additionally, the Shahbagh metro station will remain non-operational until 12 pm, with the authorities expressing sincere apologies for the temporary inconvenience caused to commuters.

The decision comes as part of an extensive security and management strategy coordinated by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to ensure a peaceful Bengali New Year.

For effective oversight, the metropolitan area has been divided into nine sectors and 14 sub-sectors.

A significant contingent of uniformed and plainclothes personnel will be deployed across the city, supported by specialized units including dog squads and bomb disposal teams.

Fourteen fortified security checkpoints will be established at key locations such as Ramna Park, Suhrawardy Udyan, and Dhaka University.

All visitors will be required to undergo screening via archway metal detectors and handheld devices.

Surveillance will be further bolstered by a network of CCTV cameras, drones, and observation towers. Rooftop monitoring and special force deployments are also planned to maintain order.

The center of the celebrations, the traditional Mangal Shobhajatra organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University, is scheduled to begin at 9 am.

The procession will move through Shahbagh, TSC, and Doel Chattar before returning to the faculty.

To ensure public safety, plainclothes teams will be active to prevent mugging and harassment, while strict monitoring will be in place to manage unauthorized hawkers.

DMP Acting Commissioner Md Sarwar confirmed on Sunday that all outdoor festivities must conclude by 6 pm.
