A Chinese technical delegation has inspected the proposed site for a 1,000-bed hospital in Nilphamari district, which is set to be constructed with a grant from the Chinese government.

The six-member delegation, led by Dong Li, visited the proposed 25-acre site in the Darwani area near the district town on Saturday (May 9) between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM.

The team was accompanied by several high-ranking officials, including Health Ministry Deputy Secretary Fatema Tuz Zohra, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Md. Saidul Islam, Civil Surgeon Abdur Razzak, and Nilphamari Public Works Department Executive Engineer Md. Sakiuzzaman.

Project Details: Bangladesh-China Friendship General Hospital
Following the inspection, Deputy Secretary Fatema Tuz Zohra told the media that the modern 10-story facility, named the Bangladesh-China Friendship General Hospital, will be built on 25 acres of land.

The complex will include:

• A 10-story hospital building with 500 general and 500 specialized beds.
• Residential buildings and dormitories for doctors, nurses, and health workers.
• A Director’s bungalow and necessary auxiliary infrastructure.
• State-of-the-art medical equipment.

Budget and Funding
Civil Surgeon Md. Abdur Razzak confirmed that the project will be implemented under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) at a total cost of 2,292 crore BDT. Out of this, the Chinese government will provide 2,219 crore BDT as a grant.

Specialized Medical Services
Nilphamari Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nayiruzzaman stated that the visiting team conducted a preliminary survey to assess existing facilities and future requirements. Their report will be followed by a visit from a high-level delegation.

In addition to general medical care, the hospital will feature specialized departments including Nephrology, Cardiology, Oncology, and Neurology.

It will also be equipped with modern emergency units, ICU, CCU, HDU, and advanced diagnostic and surgical facilities to treat complex and chronic illnesses.
