13-Year-Old Opratim Laid to Rest in Cumilla

Thirteen-year-old Yashat Shahriar Opratim—the sole son of Comilla University Bangla department associate professor Dr Nahida Begum and teacher KM Firoz Shahriar—was laid to rest Sunday at the family graveyard following a second namaz-e-janaza at Gondamati Eidgah in Kotbari, Sadar Dakkhin upazila, after being discovered dead in a local jungle on Saturday.

Mourners including university faculty, students, staff, and area residents gathered for his initial morning janaza at 10 am on the Comilla University campus, where a tearful KM Firoz Shahriar addressed attendees saying, "Opratim grew up with your affection and love. If he has ever hurt anyone, please forgive him," moving the assembly to tears.

Opratim, a seventh-grade student at Cumilla Border Guard Public School, left home Friday around 3:30 pm with his mother's iPhone for photography with peers, failing to return and prompting a general diary filing by his father with Sadar Dakkhin Police Station.

Police have detained three suspects—Tuhin, Anas, and Fahim—for interrogation regarding the fatality.
