The humanitarian platform ‘Amra BNP Poribar’ has extended financial aid and support to a family of five orphaned sisters in Radhanagar village under Dohar upazila of Dhaka, following direct intervention by Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman.
A news report titled “Parents found hanging within a month, what will happen to five daughters in a family struggling with poverty?” caught the attention of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who serves as the chief patron of ‘Amra BNP Poribar’.
Upon reviewing the report, he instructed his Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon to dispatch a delegation to assist the grieving family.
On Friday, a delegation led by Amra BNP Poribar Member Secretary Agriculturist Moksedul Momin Mithun visited the residence of the late farmer couple, Abul Kalam Azad and Farida Begum, in Radhanagar village of Bilashpur union in Dohar.
The delegation met with family members, inquired about their welfare, and interacted with the five orphaned daughters. Financial assistance and gift items were subsequently presented to the family on behalf of the Prime Minister.
Responding to queries from journalists, Mithun explained that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman established ‘Amra BNP Poribar’ with the explicit objective of aiding distressed citizens regardless of their political affiliation.
“After the media published reports about the family’s plight, the matter came to the Prime Minister’s attention, and he immediately instructed us to stand by the family. We have come here today with a message of sympathy and assistance on his behalf,” he stated.
The delegation included organization members Masud Rana Liton and Mustakim Billah, Dohar upazila BNP General Secretary Masud Parvez, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal central joint general secretary Hasnain Nahian Sajib, former BUET Chhatra Dal general secretary Engineer Abu Hanif, Chhatra Dal leaders Mashiur Rahman Mahan and Abdullah Al Misbah, alongside local community leaders.
The deceased couple, farmer Abul Kalam Azad and his wife Farida Begum, passed away within a span of just 31 days amid severe, prolonged financial distress and mounting debt burdens.
Farida Begum died initially, and her husband Abul Kalam Azad was found hanging inside their home one month later.
