Police have filed a case over the deadly fire at Tuptup Resort in Patuartek, Cox's Bazar, naming the resort owner, Tanveer Ahmad—a resident of Boalkhali—as the primary accused.
Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atiqur Rahman Mazumder confirmed the matter around 10:15 PM on Saturday (October 17).
However, he declined to disclose the total number or full identities of those named in the case.
An anonymous source within the Ukhiya police stated that resort manager Mohammad Sumon has also been named alongside Tanveer Ahmad.
The source could not specify the total count of accused individuals. Police have already detained Sumon and placed him under arrest in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, OC Atiqur Rahman Mazumder stated that decisions regarding the handed-over bodies will be made following DNA testing.
He noted that to clear confusion surrounding recovered bodies, missing persons, and identity verifications, handing over the remains to relatives will depend on DNA matching results.
Until then, the bodies will remain preserved at the Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital morgue.
Superintendent of CID Police in Cox's Bazar, Md. Abul Kalam Azad, said sample collection points for DNA testing will be set up across various hospitals in Cox's Bazar.
If necessary, a specialized CID team will be brought in from Dhaka to conduct the testing locally and collect required DNA samples.
