At least six members of the security forces, including three to four army personnel and two police officers, were injured during a nearly two-hour gunfight with blockaders in the Ujo Bazar area of Sajek, Rangamati.

Rangamati Superintendent of Police (SP) Abdur Raqib confirmed that the situation is currently under control.

The SP shared these details during a press conference held at the Rangamati Superintendent of Police office on Thursday (October 22) afternoon.

He stated that law enforcement officers had requested the blockaders at Ujo Bazar to clear the road so that stranded tourists in Sajek could reach their destinations safely.

In response, the blockaders hurled brickbats at the security personnel, injuring three to four army members and two police officers.

Subsequently, the blockaders opened fire on the law enforcement team, prompting officers to retaliate. Intermittent gunfire continued for nearly two hours, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

The Superintendent of Police added that the area is currently calm and security forces have brought Ujo Bazar back under their control.

Furthermore, all tourists have safely departed Sajek.

He assured that a full investigation will be conducted into the incident and legal action will be taken against those involved.
