Khaleda Zia in Nazimuddin Road jail
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia entered the premises of the old Central Jail in Nazimuddin Road in the capital after she was awarded a five-year imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on Thursday.
According to the jail source, she will be kept at the day care centre at the old central jail. Earlier the day care centre was made ready for her.
After the verdict Khaleda Zia was boarded on her vehicle. Then she was taken to the jail surrounded by a contingent of law enforcers from the Special court at Bakshibazar.
According to the sources, if her physical condition deteriorated then she will be shifted to the Prison Cell of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
Five were awarded 10 years imprisonment each including BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. They were also fined 2 crore 10 lakh 71 thousand 671 taka each. In this case Begum Khaleda Zia, the former Prime Minister was awarded five years imprisonment.
The special judge court set up at the parade ground of Prison Department at Bakshibazar in the capital delivered the verdict at 2:30 pm on Thursday.
Of the six accused, Khaleda Zia, former MP Salimul Haq Kamal and businessman Sharfuddin Ahmed were present before the court. The other accused Tarique Rahman is in United Kingdom and former Principal Secretary Kamal Uddin Siddique and former President Ziaur Rahma’s nephew Mominur Rahman were absconding from the beginning.
