The decision to reduce the profit rates of five savings schemes under the Department of National Savings has been revoked.
As a result, the previous higher interest rates for savings certificates (Sanchayapatra) will remain in effect.
A notification was issued in this regard by the Internal Resources Division (IRD) of the Ministry of Finance on Sunday (January 4).
Earlier, on December 31, a notification had set new (lower) profit rates effective from January 1. That decision has been scrapped just four days later.
Consequently, depending on the scheme and investment tier, the maximum profit rate will range from 11.82% to 11.98%.
