Remittance Surge: 27,000 Crore Taka Received in 23 Days

Expatriate Bangladeshis sent 2.238 billion USD (223.80 crore USD) to the country during the first 23 days of this June. At an exchange rate of 122 Taka per USD, the amount exceeds 27,000 crore Taka in local currency.

According to this calculation, the country received an average daily remittance inflow of 97.3 million USD.

Arif Hossain Khan, spokesperson for Bangladesh Bank, confirmed the data on Wednesday (June 24).

Year-on-Year Growth
Central bank data indicates that the 2.238 billion USD received in the first 23 days of June marks an increase compared to the same period last year, when expatriates sent 2.209 billion USD. This signifies a noticeable year-on-year growth in remittance inflow.

In total, from July of the current fiscal year until Tuesday (June 23), the country received 34.995 billion USD in remittances.

During the corresponding period of the 2024-25 fiscal year, the total remittance received was 29.715 billion USD. This represents a 17.80% growth in remittance earnings.

Historical Context
Earlier in May, the country received 2.97 billion USD in remittances. At 122 Taka per USD, this amounted to approximately 36,234 crore Taka in local currency, marking the second-highest monthly remittance inflow in the country's history.
