The central bank is set to announce its new monetary policy for the first half of the upcoming fiscal year (FY 2026-27) today, Tuesday (June 30), at 3:00 PM.
Central Bank Governor Md. Mostakur Rahman will officially unveil the monetary policy statement at the bank's headquarters. For the July-December term, the policy rate (repo rate) is widely expected to remain unchanged at 10% as part of a continued contractionary or tight stance to rein in inflation. Concurrently, specific measures to boost private sector credit flow and support economic recovery are anticipated.
This will mark the first monetary policy statement issued by the central bank under the newly formed BNP-led government. Sources indicate that several new initiatives may be introduced to enhance credit flow to productive sectors, stimulate investment, and reduce the overall cost of commercial borrowing.
According to relevant sources, the policy rate or repo rate is highly likely to be held steady at 10% since inflationary pressures have not yet fully subsided.
As part of the government's broader financial planning, the monetary policy outlines the projected money supply in the market for a specific period. It primarily prioritizes inflation control, private sector credit growth, and maintaining economic growth momentum.
The central bank announces its monetary policy every six months. The policy statement unveiled on Tuesday will remain effective for the July–December period of this year.
