Global oil prices jumped $2 (€1.79) a barrel on Monday amid continued Iran-backed Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabian infrastructure.
After hammering Saudi Arabia's King Khalid International Airport — ultimately forcing its closure — Houthi militants have struck fear in global markets that supplies may continue to dwindle as the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East drag on and winter approaches.
Oil prices rose roughly 2% on global markets on Monday as Saudi Arabian Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman noted that "energy security cannot be taken for granted."
The energy minister on Monday said, "The events of recent weeks are serious, our response must be equally serious."
Although US President Donald Trump pitched a deal last week that would allow Russia to sell diesel again and later announced what he billed as an "energy ceasefire" between Ukraine and aggressor Russia, there is great skepticism as to whether either will actually happen and if they do, whether they will positively impact markets.
