Iran Offers to Mediate as Saudi-Houthi Fighting Escalates

Iran has expressed deep concern over escalating fighting between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Tehran-backed Houthi rebels, offering to help facilitate dialogue.

"We are deeply concerned about the developments taking place in the Arabian Peninsula," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei told reporters on Monday.

He said Tehran was ready "to help facilitate dialogue between the parties."

"We absolutely do not want hostilities and war to continue between two Islamic countries," Baqaei added, urging both sides to resolve their differences through talks.

His comments follow Houthi attacks on Riyadh's international airport over the weekend that killed 14 people and injured hundreds.

The Houthis are part of Iran's so-called "Axis of Resistance," a network of armed groups that also includes Lebanon's Hezbollah and Iraqi Shiite militias.
