After a prolonged wait of 32 years, the Jahangirnagar University administration has finally announced the date for the Central Student Union (JACSU) election.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, declared late Wednesday night (April 30th) in the Council Room of the university's new administrative building that the election will be held on July 31st.
He stated that in response to students' demands, the university's syndicate meeting had annulled the previous JACSU constitution and approved a new one. He further announced that the JACSU election would take place on July 31st from 9 am to 5 pm.
Established in 1972, the Jahangirnagar University Central Students Union (JACSU) held its first election that year. Following a major clash between students and teachers on July 29, 1993, triggered by the expulsion of a student, the university administration at the time dissolved JACSU and the hall councils, and no elections have been held since.
