Director Rinku Detained from Gulshan
Bangladesh's flourishing television drama industry was jolted last Monday night when the police detained renowned director Rafat Mojumder Rinku. Rinku was taken into custody from Dhaka's Gulshan area.
Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Touhid Alam confirmed that Rinku has been arrested as a suspect, although the reason for the detention is unclear. A source close to the director confirmed to the media that several of his industry colleagues and friends are at the police station to inquire about Rinku's well-being and condition.
Rinku has been producing dramas regularly for a long time. His works reflect the contemporary social reality and are particularly popular among the youth. His story-telling style and the subject matter are very impressive.
Meanwhile, after hearing the news of Rinku's arrest, actor Khairul Bashar said in a Facebook post on social media, "I believe and I know that director Rafat Mojumdar Rinku can never cause harm to anyone. Those who know Rinku should know it well."
It is not yet known why he was detained at midnight. If he is detained as a victim of political vendetta, then in these changing times, everyone should protest such action from their position. Let the director Rinku be released soon.
