Noted folk singer Farida Parveen has passed away (Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un). She died on Saturday, September 13, at 10:15 PM.
The news was confirmed by Ashish Kumar Chakraborty, the managing director of Universal Medical College Hospital.
At the time of her death, Farida Parveen was 71 years old. She is survived by her husband and four children.
Farida Parveen had been suffering from kidney complications for a long time. For the last few weeks, her condition had become so severe that she required dialysis twice a week.
On September 2, as part of her regular dialysis, she was taken to Universal Medical College Hospital in Mohakhali. However, her condition worsened after the procedure.
Doctors advised her to be admitted to the hospital, and she had been receiving treatment in the ICU since then. On Wednesday, as her condition deteriorated further, the decision was made to place her on a ventilator. Ultimately, all efforts by the doctors were unsuccessful.
Born on December 31, 1954, in Singra Thana, Natore, Farida Parveen dedicated 55 years of her life to music. Her professional music career began at the age of 14 in 1968.
That year, she started her journey in the music world as a listed artist for Rajshahi Betar, singing Nazrul Sangeet. In 1973, she gained popularity by singing patriotic songs.
Later, she received training in Lalon songs from the spiritual master Moksed Ali Shah and gradually became a living legend of Lalon songs.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions to music, Farida Parveen was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 1987. She also founded the 'Ochin Pakhi School' to teach Lalon songs to the new generation.
