Maintaining its dominance at the box office, Christopher Nolan's new film, The Odyssey, has crossed the milestone of $700 million (approximately 8,586 crore 65 lakh BDT) worldwide in just 12 days.

The renowned director's highly anticipated Greek epic grossed $320.5 million in the North American market and $407.4 million internationally.

Consequently, in less than two weeks since its theatrical release, the film's total global ticket sales stand at $727.9 million.

With this feat, the film has climbed to the fourth spot on the list of highest-grossing films of 2026.

The top three highest-grossing Hollywood films of the year so far include Toy Story 5 released in June ($1.02 billion), The Super Mario Galaxy Movie released in April ($1.001 billion), and Michael ($1.001 billion).

However, promisingly, Nolan's film is set to join the elite $1 billion club alongside them within the coming week, once again demonstrating Nolan's unique ability as a filmmaker to turn a cinematic release into a cultural event.

The Odyssey's phenomenal success without the Chinese market is being viewed as highly significant in the entertainment industry. The film has not yet officially premiered in China, the world's second-largest film market.

However, extensive preparations are underway in the country, where the movie is officially set for release starting August 14 across approximately 800 IMAX screens and thousands of standard auditoriums.

Meanwhile, Sony and Marvel's big-budget adventure film Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to release this coming Friday, which is projected to set records for one of the highest opening grosses of all time.

Despite facing fierce competition, market analysts predict that The Odyssey's commercial momentum will continue.

In its third weekend of release, the film is expected to earn an additional $50 million to $60 million—a figure that many adult-oriented dramas struggle to achieve globally over their entire run.

Based on Homer's 3,000-year-old epic and starring Matt Damon as the Greek king Odysseus, The Odyssey was made on a budget of $250 million, making it Christopher Nolan's most expensive directorial venture.

Commercially, it is also poised to soon claim a spot as the most successful film of his career.

Film experts speculate that it will surpass the combined earnings of Nolan's previous blockbusters The Dark Knight ($1.008 billion) and The Dark Knight Rises ($1.008 billion—Note: Rises grossed $1.08 billion), establishing itself as his highest-earning film of all time.

The IMAX format, in particular, is playing a major role in drawing audiences. As the first feature film in history shot entirely on IMAX cameras, IMAX show tickets worldwide have been sold out in advance for weeks. To date, IMAX alone has contributed $140 million to the film's global ticket sales.

Following Avengers: Endgame, The Odyssey has become the second-fastest film in IMAX history to cross the $100 million milestone in just 10 days.
