Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly finding its place in filmmaking, particularly across visual effects, animation, and various technical domains.
However, Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor believes that no matter how far technology advances, it can never serve as a substitute for human creativity and performance. His statements on the subject have sparked widespread discussion on social media.
The actor shared his thoughts on AI during promotional activities for the highly anticipated film Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari.
In an interview with BBC News, Ranbir stated that while AI could serve as an essential tool in filmmaking, the core domains of storytelling, art creation, and acting will always belong to humans.
Ranbir noted, "Art always feels more personal when it carries a human touch. Much like VFX or camera lenses, AI can be utilized as a tool to enhance the overall quality of filmmaking. However, in the medium we belong to—storytelling, artistic expression, and acting—I don't think AI can ever replace humans."
South Indian star Yash, who portrays Ravana in Ramayana, echoed Ranbir's sentiment.
According to Yash, humans must exercise greater responsibility when deploying technology, stressing the need for caution regarding where and how AI is applied.
Yash said, "Human beings are behind this technology, and we must realize this with a sense of responsibility. We need to be very careful about where we apply AI. We know how to adapt and survive. We will bring forth ideas and creations that even a machine would struggle to replicate."
Meanwhile, public anticipation surrounding Ramayana remains extraordinarily high.
Made in two parts, this epic cinematic project features Ranbir as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. The ensemble cast also includes Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey, Arun Govil, and Lara Dutta.
Boasting a budget of nearly BDT 4,000 crore (INR 835 crore), the film's score is composed jointly by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman.
The first part is scheduled for release on November 5 this year, with the second installment set to hit theaters in 2027.
