
Three children succumbed to measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8 am on Sunday, elevating the nation's total tally of confirmed and suspected measles-related fatalities to 1,125 for the current year.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) designated all three recent deaths as suspected cases, confirming that no laboratory-verified fatalities from the highly contagious airborne infection were recorded during this period.
With these additional casualties, the overall count of suspected measles deaths has risen to 1,023, while laboratory-confirmed deaths remain unchanged at 102.
A further 1,218 new suspected measles cases were reported within the same 24-hour window, pushing the nationwide cumulative count of suspected infections to 196,418.
Concurrently, health authorities identified 82 newly confirmed measles cases, bringing the total number of laboratory-verified infections to 21,748.
According to data provided by the DGHS, a total of 174,149 individuals presenting with suspected measles symptoms have been admitted to hospitals across the country since March 15 this year, with 166,908 of them having successfully recovered.
