Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration extended a congratulatory letter to President-elect Lai Ching-te of Taiwan on his election victory.


Sikyong writes, “On behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration and the Tibetan people, I extend my warm congratulations to you and the Democratic Progressive Party on the election victory. Your election stands as a testament to the unyielding commitment of Taiwanese people to the principles of democracy and freedom.”


“Under the visionary leadership of Her Excellency Tsai Ing-wen, Taiwan has stood bravely at the forefront in promoting democratic values, and her courage and vision in strengthening Taiwan’s interest against all odds is recognized all around the world.”


“Your Excellency’s recent statement that the future of Taiwan is to be decided by its people resonates deeply with Tibetans. As a democracy in exile with a distinct culture and identity, the Tibetan people cherish deeply the values of self-determination and freedom to flourish as a part of the international community.”


Sikyong pointed out the strong historical and spiritual ties between Taiwan and Tibet as well as the shared commitment to democracy and people to people ties.


“In the backdrop of our historical ties as well as the heartfelt reverence of a significant majority of Taiwanese towards His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the bond between Tibetans and Taiwanese have grown over the years through our shared commitment to democracy and people-to-people ties. “


“On behalf of the Tibetans in Tibet and worldwide, I once again extend my heartfelt congratulations to you. May your tenure be marked by success, prosperity, and continued dedication to the values that you so cherish”, the letter concludes.
