After devastating Palestine’s Gaza Strip over the past year, Israel's aggression now seems to be targeting another Middle Eastern country, Lebanon. Just a week after a deadly pager and walkie-talkie explosion, Israel has launched a series of airstrikes on Lebanon. The attacks, which began last Saturday, continue unabated. The most recent strikes have claimed the lives of 72 more people, with another 400 injured.

Five days of continuous airstrikes have pushed the death toll in Lebanon beyond 600, according to Al Jazeera on Thursday (September 26).

The Lebanese Health Ministry reported that 72 more people were killed in Israeli attacks on Wednesday. Among the dead, 38 were in southern Lebanon, 12 in the eastern Bekaa region, and 22 in three cities north and south of the capital Beirut.

In a statement, Lebanon's Health Ministry added that approximately 400 people were injured in Wednesday's strikes.

Meanwhile, Israeli military chief Herzi Halevi has instructed troops stationed along the Lebanese border to prepare for a possible ground assault against Hezbollah. Considering the situation, it appears that the death toll in Lebanon is unlikely to decrease soon.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that the Middle East is witnessing a full-scale disaster and cautioned that if Israel escalates the conflict further, Iran will support Lebanon in every way.

As of Wednesday, Lebanon’s Health Ministry confirmed that the death toll from Israeli airstrikes had surpassed 620 in just five days.

Lebanon’s Foreign Minister also stated that the heavy bombings have already displaced approximately 500,000 people.

France’s Foreign Minister told the UN Security Council that they are working with the United States on a proposal for a 21-day ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.
