Another 40 Killed in Gaza, Death Toll Surpasses 43,600
At least 40 more Palestinians have been killed in Israel's brutal assault on the besieged Gaza Strip, pushing the total death toll in the region to over 43,600.
Additionally, over 100,000 Palestinians have been injured in the attacks that began in October of last year. Al Jazeera reported this update on Tuesday, November 12.
According to the report, Israeli strikes have killed at least 40 Palestinians across Gaza, including a drone attack on a café in the southern al-Mawasi area, where people were seated. This attack claimed the lives of 10 people. Previously, the Israeli military had declared this area a “safe zone.”
An Al Jazeera correspondent in Gaza stated that the drone strike on the small tent café in the western part of Khan Younis killed at least 10 civilians late on Monday night.
Hani Mahmoud from Al Jazeera, reporting from Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, said, “This attack proves that Israeli claims about ‘safe zones’ are merely falsehoods. People would go to this café to connect with the outside world via the internet or to watch football on a big screen. Late at night, two missiles were fired from a drone into the café while people were inside. An eyewitness mentioned that the café was full of people at the time.”
He added that surgeries were ongoing for seven injured individuals and stated, “The victims who arrived at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis were completely disfigured.”
Earlier, health officials at Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat, central Gaza, reported that 20 people were killed on Monday in multiple air and ground attacks, including Israeli tanks advancing from the west and shelling residents in the Nuseirat refugee camp.
An eyewitness stated that residents were shocked by the tank attacks in the refugee camp. A 25-year-old man named Zaik Mohammed said, “Some people couldn’t get out and were trapped inside their homes.”
Since Hamas's unprecedented cross-border attack on October 7, Israel has continued relentless air and ground assaults on Gaza. Israeli attacks have damaged or destroyed thousands of buildings, including hospitals, schools, refugee camps, mosques, and churches.
Due to Israeli aggression, over 2 million residents have been forced to flee their homes.
The Palestinian health authority believes that more than 10,000 people remain missing under the rubble of destroyed homes throughout Gaza. Despite calls from the UN Security Council for an immediate ceasefire, Israel has continued its violent assault on the besieged region.
The ongoing Israeli offensive has turned Gaza into rubble. According to the UN, around 85 percent of Palestinians in Gaza have been displaced due to Israel’s attacks. Everyone in Gaza now faces food insecurity amid severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine.
The latest attacks have brought the total number of deaths in Gaza since October of last year to 43,603, as reported by the health ministry in the besieged territory on Monday.
