In a first, Israel has confirmed its role in a September operation to disable hundreds of pagers used by Hezbollah in Lebanon. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged the operation during a cabinet meeting, according to Israeli media reports.

Netanyahu reportedly told his cabinet that “the beeper operation and the targeting of (Hezbollah leader Hassan) Nasrallah were carried out despite opposition from senior security officials and the political leaders overseeing them.”

An Israeli official verified these statements to CNN, marking the first public acknowledgment of Israel’s involvement.
