Tehran has sent a message to the Biden administration, assuring that Iran has no plans to assassinate newly re-elected U.S. President Donald Trump, according to reports from The New York Times and NDTV. This comes after the Biden administration warned Iran in September that any attack on Trump’s life would be considered "an act of war."

The message, sent through an intermediary in October, aimed to ease tensions between Washington and Tehran. The U.S. had earlier issued stern warnings to Iran, concerned about potential retaliation for the 2020 killing of Iranian Major General Qassem Soleimani, which was reportedly ordered by Trump.

Following Trump’s victory in the November 5 U.S. presidential election, Iranian officials, analysts, and media outlets have adopted a more conciliatory tone toward him, despite pressure from U.S. allies urging Trump to maintain a hardline stance against Iran.

Amid these developments, U.S. officials expressed fears that Tehran might target Trump in retaliation for Soleimani’s death. Reports from American officials highlighted two alleged Iranian plots against Trump and similar concerns from other Trump administration figures.

According to U.S. officials, Iran’s message described Soleimani’s assassination as a criminal act but clarified that Tehran has no plans to target Trump. The message was confirmed by an Iranian official and an analyst acting as intermediaries. Iran expressed its intent to pursue justice for Soleimani's killing through international legal channels rather than conflict.

While U.S. officials noted that the message did not come from any specific Iranian official, intermediaries confirmed it originated from Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran provided no additional details but stated its preference for seeking justice through "legal and judicial means."

Previously, during the presidential campaign, U.S. officials had warned of a potential Iranian plot to assassinate Trump. Recently, Manhattan federal prosecutors confirmed evidence of discussions among Iranian conspirators about targeting Trump, though Iran’s foreign ministry dismissed these allegations as baseless.

On Monday, Trump ally Elon Musk met with Iran’s UN ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani, as part of efforts to reduce tensions between the U.S. and Iran under Trump’s administration.

Since the 1979 revolution, the U.S. and Iran have had no formal diplomatic relations, with Switzerland’s embassy in Tehran serving as a diplomatic channel. In recent years, the two nations have engaged in direct and indirect discussions on various issues, including Iran’s nuclear program and prisoner exchanges.
