Saudi Arabia, home to a large number of undocumented expatriates from various countries, has been working to simplify the process for them to return to their home countries. Continuing this effort, the Kingdom's Directorate General of Passports (Jawazat) is set to launch a modern system called the 'Self-Deportation Platform'.
This information was announced by the Saudi Ministry of Interior on Thursday (November 6) at the Digital Government Forum 2025.
Authorities stated that the new platform will allow undocumented expats to complete the process of applying to return home online. The Ministry indicated this move will end the complex and time-consuming administrative process that has long been in place.
Furthermore, authorities also announced the launch of a special system named 'Smart Track' to modernize passenger movement at Saudi airports and border crossings using advanced technology.
Under this system, passengers will be able to verify their identity via smart cameras and cross the border without the need for direct interaction with a passport official.
In addition, a new Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based technology called 'Digital Twins' will be introduced. This technology will be used to analyze crowd movements, estimate waiting times, and monitor service quality.
According to Saudi authorities, these initiatives are expected to usher in a new era for the country's travel and expatriate services sector before 2030, with technology at the core of all operations.
