US President Donald Trump has reignited his long-standing grievance with the Norwegian Nobel Committee, informing Norway’s Prime Minister that he no longer feels bound to "think purely of peace" following his failure to secure the Nobel Peace Prize.

In a barbed message confirmed Monday, Trump wrote to Norwegian leader Jonas Gahr Støre: “Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace.”

The President’s claim of ending eight conflicts—ranging from the India-Pakistan standoff to ongoing wars in Gaza and the DRC—has been met with sharp skepticism from global analysts.

Prime Minister Støre, confirming the correspondence to the Norwegian newspaper VG, noted that he has repeatedly clarified to the White House that the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded by an independent committee, not the Norwegian government.

"I have clearly explained... what is well known: the prize is awarded by an independent Nobel Committee," Støre stated in a written response.

The Medal Exchange Controversy

The President's obsession with the prize reached a new peak last week during a closed-door White House meeting with Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.

Machado, the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, reportedly presented Trump with her physical medal as a token of "recognition for his unique commitment to our freedom."

The exchange followed the recent abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by US Special Forces.

While Trump posted on social media that Machado had "presented" him with the award, the Norwegian Nobel Institute issued a firm reminder that the prize is legally non-transferable. Under the statutes of the Nobel Foundation, the title remains solely with the recipient, regardless of who holds the physical gold medal.

FIFA Peace Prize and Ethical Backlash

This latest friction comes on the heels of FIFA President Gianni Infantino awarding Trump the inaugural "FIFA Peace Prize" in December.

The move has sparked a global firestorm and a formal ethics complaint filed by the human rights group FairSquare. The group alleges that FIFA violated its own policy of political neutrality by using the global football organization to provide political cover and prestige to the Republican leader.
