Indian Ambassador to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra has underscored India’s commitment to the "democratization of AI" during a high-level Pre-AI Summit panel hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

Speaking alongside French Ambassador Laurent Bili in a session titled "Reflections on Paris and Prospects for New Delhi," Kwatra highlighted "Impact" as the defining driver for the upcoming India AI Impact Summit 2026.

This summit, scheduled for February 16–20 at Bharat Mandapam, will be the first-ever global AI convening hosted in a Global South nation, signaling a major shift in the international technological dialogue.

Ambassador Kwatra detailed a unique indigenous framework for AI development, anchored in three foundational pillars or "Three Sutras": People, Planet, and Progress.

He explained that the "People" sutra ensures AI respects cultural diversity and human dignity while providing universal access to technology.

The "Planet" sutra emphasizes that innovation should not be geography-centric but rather available for global environmental and scientific advancement.

Finally, the "Progress" sutra focuses on equitable distribution to ensure that technological breakthroughs lead to societal prosperity and economic growth across all sectors.

The Ambassador’s remarks come as the India AI Impact Summit gains unprecedented global momentum, with over 35,000 registrations from 100 countries and confirmed participation from 15 Heads of State and over 100 global CEOs.

Building on the previous summits in Bletchley Park, Seoul, and Paris, the New Delhi event is designed to translate high-level governance discussions into tangible developmental outcomes.

Key initiatives like "AI by HER" for women innovators and "YUVAi" for youth underscore India’s inclusive approach, reaching beyond major hubs to involve learners and startups from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

The discussions at CSIS also served as a curtain-raiser for the India AI Impact Expo 2026, where real-world applications in healthcare, agriculture, and education will be showcased.

By focusing on sovereign AI models and secure data platforms, India aims to position itself as a global leader in responsible AI.

As the summit approaches, the focus remains firmly on creating a trusted and inclusive AI ecosystem that addresses the specific needs of developing economies while setting a new standard for global cooperation.
