Dubai International Airport Suspends Flights Following Drone Attack

Flight operations at Dubai International Airport (DXB) were temporarily suspended on Monday morning (March 16) following a drone-related security incident.

Airport authorities confirmed the suspension as a "precautionary measure" taken to ensure the safety of passengers and staff.

According to reports from the BBC and Al Jazeera, travelers are being advised to contact their respective airlines for the latest updates regarding flight schedules and potential delays.

Ground Transport Disruptions
In addition to the airspace closure, Dubai Police have temporarily shut down Airport Road and the Airport Tunnel. Motorists have been urged to seek alternative routes for any essential travel.

The Dubai Media Office earlier reported that civil defense teams successfully brought a fire under control after a drone reportedly struck a fuel tank in the vicinity of the airport.

Global Impact
Prior to the recent escalation of regional tensions, Dubai International Airport held the title of the world's busiest airport by international passenger numbers. In 2025, the hub handled approximately 90 million passengers.

The current suspension is expected to cause significant ripples across global flight networks given Dubai’s role as a primary transit point between the East and West.
