President Donald Trump has addressed the recent security breach at the White House, stating that the shooting incident is unlikely to be connected to the ongoing conflict with Iran.
Despite the ongoing military tensions, the President emphasized that the attack would not influence his administration’s foreign policy objectives.
“It’s not going to deter me from winning the war in Iran,” Trump declared during a press conference. “I don’t know if that had anything to do with it, I really don’t think so, based on what we know.”
While the President expressed skepticism regarding a foreign link, he remained cautious, adding that “you never know” as federal investigators continue to probe the shooter's true intent.
In the wake of the chaos, major US media outlets, including The New York Times and CBS News, have identified the suspected gunman as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old male.
The incident unfolded during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington. Authorities allege that Allen attempted to breach the high-security perimeter of the event.
During the confrontation, the assailant was apprehended by Secret Service agents. One officer sustained an injury during the scuffle but survived the encounter, credited largely to the protection of a bulletproof vest.
President Trump, who was evacuated alongside senior officials during the security breach, characterized the suspect as a “would-be assassin” and a “lone wolf.”
Early evidence suggests the attack was a solitary act rather than a coordinated foreign effort.
This security scare comes at a volatile time for the administration.
Even as the President dismissed direct links between the shooting and the war, he noted that Iran had reportedly made "fresh offers" shortly after the Iranian delegation canceled a scheduled trip for diplomatic talks in the US.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that Allen was heavily armed at the time of his arrest, carrying a shotgun, a handgun, and several knives.
While authorities believe he acted alone, the investigation into his specific motives remains active.
