A devastating collision between two trains on the outskirts of Jakarta has left at least four people dead and 38 others injured. The accident occurred Monday morning (April 27) at Bekasi Timur Station.

The Incident
According to local reports, a commuter train packed with passengers was stationary at the platform, awaiting a signal to depart. Without warning, a high-speed long-distance train traveling on the same track struck the commuter train from behind. The impact was severe, crushing the rear carriages of the stationary vessel before the driver could take any evasive action.

Rescue Efforts
The force of the crash triggered widespread panic among passengers. Local residents and emergency responders rushed to the scene to extricate victims from the mangled wreckage. Authorities confirmed four fatalities at the site, while 38 injured passengers were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care.

Official Response
Anne Purba, spokesperson for the state-owned rail operator KAI, stated in a press release that rescue operations were initiated immediately following the crash.

Investigation: A formal committee has been established to determine the cause of the accident.

Status: Officials say it is too early to confirm whether the collision was caused by mechanical failure or human error.

Government Oversight
Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, visited the site to monitor the situation. Expressing his deep concern, he warned that the death toll could rise as search teams continue to clear the debris.

"An accident of this nature is absolutely unacceptable," Ahmad told reporters.
