Fresh tensions have flared between Washington and Tehran following claims by Iran that it targeted a United States warship in the Gulf of Oman—a claim the US military has flatly denied.

According to a report by the Anadolu Agency, the Iranian Navy claimed on Wednesday (June 3) that it launched an attack against a US warship stationed in the Gulf of Oman.

Tehran alleged that the vessel was acting as a command center for US operations targeting Iranian commercial ships.

In a statement issued by the public relations department of the Iranian Navy, Tehran characterized the action as a direct response to recent regulatory violations in the Strait of Hormuz and alleged US strikes on Iranian commercial vessels.

The statement further claimed that the US warship was attempting to navigate toward Iranian territorial waters when it was intercepted and targeted.

Iran added that it maintains continuous surveillance over US and Israeli activities in the region and stands ready to take further retaliatory measures if necessary.

US Central Command Rejects Claim
United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has completely rejected Iran's claims, dismissing the reports as propaganda.

In a statement posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), CENTCOM asserted that Iran is spreading false information, confirming that all US military assets in the region remain safe, undamaged, and are continuing their routine operations.
